Share values between flows

Use a shared variable when one flow needs a value that another flow saved, or that an earlier run of the same flow saved. For example, a nightly sync flow can save when it last ran, and a report flow can read it.

Shared variables belong to a workspace: every flow in the workspace can read and update them. For how they compare with files and other storage, see Storage.

This guide saves a value called last_sync in one flow and reads it in another.

1. Save the value

  1. In the flow that produces the value, click Add Step where the value is ready, open Built-in, choose Variables, then Set Value.
  2. Set Scope Type to Shared (all flows). With the default, Within flow, the value is gone when the run ends.
  3. Set Key to last_sync. Use letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, and avoid other special characters.
  4. Set Value. Type a fixed value, or type $ and pick data from an earlier step, such as the trigger's date and time.
  5. Optionally, set Expire after (seconds) to delete the value automatically, for example 604800 for one week. Leave it empty to keep the value until someone deletes it.
  6. Publish the flow and let it run once, so the value exists.

To save several values in one step, use Set Multiple Values instead.

2. Read it from another flow

  1. In the other flow, add Built-in › Variables › Get Value.
  2. Set Scope Type to Shared (all flows) here too. A Get Value step with Within flow only looks in its own run, and won't find the shared value.
  3. Set Key to last_sync.
  4. In later steps, type $ and pick this step's value. See Using data from earlier steps.

If no value has been saved yet, Get Value still succeeds and value is empty, with exists set to false. You can branch on exists with a Path, or turn off Success If Not Exist to make the step fail instead.

3. Check and change the value in Storage

Open Storage in the sidebar and choose the Shared Variables tab. Each variable shows its key, value, type, expiry and when it was last updated.

  • To find last_sync, search by the start of its key.
  • To change the value by hand, click Edit, enter the new value as JSON, and save. Text goes in quotes, as in "2026-10-01T00:00:00Z". Flows get the new value the next time they read it.
  • To remove it, click Delete. Flows that read it no longer find it, as if it had never been saved.
  • To create a value before any flow has saved it, click New variable.

Build a simple queue

Shared variables can also hold a list. One flow adds items with Push Value Onto List, and another takes them one at a time with Pop Value From List, from the head (oldest first) or the tail (newest first). A list holds up to 1,000 items. See the full limits.
