Connect a credential

A credential stores the details a step needs to sign in to another service, such as an API key, a token or an OAuth app. You save it once and pick it in any step that needs it, so the secret never appears in a step's settings.

Credentials belong to a workspace. Every flow in the workspace can use them, and flows in other workspaces can't.

Create a credential

  1. Open Credentials in the sidebar and click Create Credential.
  2. In Browse All Apps and Tools, search for the service, for example OpenAI or HTTP, and pick it.
  3. The form is named after the service. Click the pencil next to the name to rename it, for example OpenAI – support team, and add a description if you like.
  4. If the service accepts more than one kind of credential, choose one under Credential Type. The HTTP node, for example, offers API Key, Basic Auth, Bearer Token, OAuth2 and more. See Call an external API.
  5. Fill in the fields, such as OpenAI API Key.
  6. Click Test to check the details with the service. Connection Tested Successfully. means they work.
  7. Click Save.

Connect an OAuth credential

Google Calendar and Gmail use OAuth2: instead of a key, you sign in to Google and allow AI Studio to act for you. You need an OAuth app (client) of your own in the Google Cloud console.

  1. Start as above and pick Google Calendar or Gmail.
  2. Fill in Client ID and Client Secret from your OAuth app, and the Scopes to ask for, separated by commas.
  3. Callback URL is filled in for you. Add the same URL to your OAuth app's authorized redirect URIs in Google, or the sign-in fails.
  4. Click Save. A sign-in window opens. Sign in to Google and allow access. Finish within 15 minutes, or start again.

If nothing opens, your browser blocked the pop-up and AI Studio shows Popup was blocked. Please allow popups for this site. Allow pop-ups for AI Studio and try again.

Access tokens expire after a while. The Google steps renew them automatically, so you don't need to sign in again each time.

Zoom also uses OAuth2, with a Server-to-Server app. Fill in Account ID, Client ID and Client Secret. AI Studio gets the token from Zoom directly, so there's no sign-in window.

Use a credential in a step

A step that signs in to a service has a Credential setting.

  1. Click Select a credential and choose one. Use Search credentials to find it by name. The list shows only credentials of the kinds this step accepts.
  2. If you don't have one yet, click Connect a new credential. The same form opens, and the new credential is selected when you save it.

To use a different one later, click Change next to the credential.

Edit, test or remove a credential

Each credential on the Credentials page has a menu:

ActionWhat it does
EditChange the name and description.
TestCheck the saved details with the service again.
DeleteRemove the credential. Steps that use it can no longer sign in, so flows that use them may fail. This can't be undone.

To change the details themselves, such as a key, click the credential to open its form, update the fields, then Test and Save.

When a credential stops working

If a step fails to sign in, open the credential and click Test to see what the service says.

  • API key or token: create a new key in the service, paste it into the credential, then Test and Save. Every step that uses the credential picks up the new key.
  • OAuth: if access was revoked or the OAuth app changed, create a new credential for the service and sign in again. Then open each step that used the old one, click Change, pick the new one, and publish the flow. Delete the old credential when no step uses it.
